Manager, producer, head of a record
label are some of the things Marty Thau did in his life so far. You
might call him a rock and roll romantic or a visionary. Hardly anyone
else was more involved and had more influence in the development of
the emerging New York music scene of the early seventies as well as
the New Wave scene in the USA than Marty Thau.
Although it was often the others who where covered with glory, it
was the visionary Marty Thau who acted behind the scene and helped
them on the road to success. He was the one who discovered the New
York Dolls, who managed them and helped them to get their first
record deal. Thau also produced the Ramones and Blondie's
first demos who later reached world fame. Other bands like Suicide,
Richard Hell & The Voidoids, The Real Kids and the
Fleshtones followed. They all became international cult bands
in the course of time and inspired many other younger groups to keep
up the rock and roll spirit.
At the Punk! Kongress Marty Thau will talk about his experiences in
the music business and the early days of the New York punk era. more...
