Founded in 1974 by Crocus Behemoth
a.k.a.
David Thomas in the run-down industrial town of Cleveland/Ohio
Rocket From The Tombs (RFTT) mixed noisy freeform avantgarde rock
with brutal, basic proto-punk. Their nihilistic lyrics made even the
Velvet Underground and the Stooges looking pale in
comparison. After just two years and without a proper release the
band disbanded. Bandmembers like David Thomas, Cheetah
Chrome and Craig Bell are using the RFTT songbook after
the split for their following projects. RFTT songs appear in the setlists
for Pere Ubu, the Dead Boys and Saucers.
In 2002 a long awaited CD-retrospective is the motive for the surviving
Rockets members to play out live again. The void that was created
by original RFTT guitar player Peter Laughners untimely death
at the end of the 70´s is filled by Richard Lloyd, guitar
player for New York City´s punk and indie pioneers Television.
Since the reunion shows the band is hailed by the press as one of
the long lost juwels of rock & roll history.
Rocket From the Tombs will play for the first time in Europe and appear
exclusively at the Punk! Kongress.
