If you want to deal with punk
and new wave in Germany you can´t ignore S.Y.P.H. Formed 1977 in Solingen by Harry Rag and Thomas Schwebel the band very fast leaves the generic three-chord-formula behind and starts searching for other forms of expression. Their search still continues in the year 2004. Somewhere between punk, krautrock, dub and dadaistic soundcollages the band still plays an exceptional role in the German music scene and is already regarded as a part of the nations cultural history. The recently released band retrospective „Ungehörsam - the essential recordings 1978-2003“ impressively proves to the fact and is highly recommended for the uninitiated. Therefore the news that the band will appear at Punk! Kongress in the original line-up from 1978 is a much cheered sensation: Harry Rag (vocals), Uwe Jahnke (the guitar armada from Solingen), Jojo Wolter (bass), Ulli Putsch (drums). |
